I shoot a LOT, generally several times a week. When it comes to all the new bells and whistles like red dots, I have always been a bit on the old-school side and was a bit slow to adopt these, which is odd considering I'm an early adopter on every other kind of tech on earth! In any case, I decided it was time to try one out, and I tested a bunch of them at the range. This one stood apart from the rest, and is the one I purchased, so I will tell you why! The first thing that I loved is the larger viewing window. It is significantly larger than other miniaturized optics, and makes acquiring the dot lightning fast. Dot quality is great, but I almost sent mine back when I first looked through it because it wasn't a perfectly round dot. It was more of a asterisk looking thing, so I thought it was defective. Turns out i'm the one that is defective. Apparently I have an astigmatism, even though I don't wear glasses and have better than average vision. Not a big deal, it is still plenty clear to use when it counts. Now for the negatives, and there are really only two--maybe three. First is the size. That bigger viewing window means a larger housing. Whether or not this is a problem for you will really depend on what you're using the gun for. If it is a range gun or home defense weapon it won't be a problem at all. If you are carrying it as a licensed citizen, it will be a bit more bulky and get knocked around here and there. I use it for all of the above and haven't found it to be a problem at all. Second is the shape. The round shape of the housing means it isn't as sturdy. If you read the fine print on these, you'll see that they are not intended more "hard" use like military or law enforcement. For that, you'll want to rely on their other miniaturized optic, which is in service with our military. The shape of those optics allows for a more sturdy housing, but at the trade-off of viewing size. Lastly, and very importantly, is the price. I tested a lot of optics, and to be perfectly honest, there are optics out there that seem to be every bit as good as this one and cost half the price--or less. I bought this to be part of my home defense platform, so I wanted the best, but I could have attained the same results with less money. So it will really depend on how valuable that extra viewing picture is. If it isn't that important, some lower priced alternatives will fit the bill better, and provide a more sturdy package to boot. Having said that, it is a great optic and I don't regret my purchase.
